About This Work

Architecture of Resilience 11 explores the tension between randomness and the human desire to create meaning and order. Layered architectural forms, a central tree, and fragmented spaces come together through translucent materials, marks, and patterns, creating a landscape that feels both constructed and constantly changing. The tree becomes a symbol of resilience, while the overlapping layers suggest memory, experience, and the ongoing process of finding connection and meaning within uncertainty.

Artist Bio

Hadieh Afshani is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose practice explores the tension between randomness, culture, and free will, drawing from experiences of migration, displacement, memory, and motherhood. Born in Tehran, Iran, and having lived in Australia before settling in the United States, Afshani examines how movement between cultures shapes identity, belonging, and the ways people construct meaning from uncertain experiences. Working primarily through painting and mixed media, she builds layered environments using transparent inks, paint, resin, gold leaf, threads, and architectural imagery. Her compositions often bring together recognizable forms and fragments with abstraction, allowing multiple moments, memories, and possibilities to exist within a single work. Architecture functions as both a physical structure and a metaphor for memory, relationships, identity, and resilience. Afshani holds a BA in Fine Arts from Alzahra University in Tehran and MA and MFA degrees in Visual Arts from Griffith University, Australia. She has exhibited internationally and in the United States, including exhibitions in New York and New Jersey. Her work has received numerous awards, including the St George Art Award in Sydney and awards from the Aspects Art Prize in Queensland. She has also taught visual art and graphic design at the college and university level.
