About This Work

This bamboo-inspired vase reflects my tendency to seek precision through crisp forms and ordered details. Before applying a clear glaze, I fume fired the piece with a grid of copper tape, choosing not to reduce it during the subsequent raku firing. While I expected the copper lines to be more pronounced, they emerged as a faint, ghostly pattern beneath soft pink tones created by the fire. I am drawn to the tension between the deliberate geometry of the form and the unpredictability of raku, where the spontaneity of the firing softens and quiets the structure beneath.

Artist Bio

My name is Dani Rodriguez, a potter from New Jersey based on the West Side of Jersey City. I’ve lived in Hudson County for most of my life and specialize in ghost figurines, lighting, and decorative home goods. I came to pottery during a time when I needed something to fully immerse myself in, and it immediately caught me. I began taking classes nearly a year into COVID, and clay became a necessary reprieve from long days on the computer. I attended weekly classes for three years, gradually building both skill and direction. Over time, I accumulated a body of work that led to the creation of my small business, Booramics by Dani. Once I found myself repeating mugs and bowls, I shifted toward small table lamps and vessels made simply for the sake of form. In the winter of 2024, I participated in a residency that gave me space to work more freely and intentionally, helping me refine my practice and grow as both artist and potter. My work often explores variation and individuality rather than repetition. While I’m drawn to angular forms, I also enjoy looser, more organic shapes, always testing how far form can be pushed. Each piece—whether ghost, vase, or lamp—is unique. I aim to stretch the limits of what clay can do while keeping the medium approachable, reminding others that everyone starts somewhere, and pottery is for everyone.
