Bird in Garden (2024) renders the natural world as a single continuous, flowering organism. A stylized bird emerges from — and dissolves back into — the swirling vegetal forms around it, its body inseparable from the petals, tendrils, and blossoms it moves through. Working in oil on canvas, I build the image from flowing, interlocking contours in which figure and ground, creature and garden, are held in constant exchange. Recurring motifs of bird, flower, and unfurling growth speak to transformation and renewal — life as a process of blooming and becoming rather than a fixed picture. Here nature is unbounded: a field where forms perpetually turn into one another.

Artist Bio
Anna Gorun (b. 1991, Rostov-on-Don, Russia) is a painter based in Jersey City, New Jersey, where she is a resident artist at Project Studios. She trained in fine art in Rostov-on-Don (2011–2014) before developing her practice across Russia, Los Angeles, and the New York metropolitan area. Working in oil and acrylic on canvas and watercolor on paper, Gorun paints within a language of abstract surrealism centered on movement, transformation, and time. Each canvas begins as a watercolor — a spontaneous record of gesture and state — which she then translates into the density and permanence of oil and acrylic. A shifting central form anchors her compositions, at times gathering into vortex-like structures that evoke the circulation of energy through natural, biological, and cosmic processes. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions, including a solo presentation at the Project Studios Open House (Jersey City, 2026), Art Bowl (Rostov-on-Don, 2024), Metamorphoses (2019), Art-Rostov (2018), and Kraplak (2017). Through painting, she explores a world in constant transformation — growth, blooming, decay, and renewal — and the continuous movement that underlies life itself.
