“Resting place”
A sculpted tree stands rooted as a haven for a small fox and bird. The tree represents the strength of being a parent; housing and nurturing. It represents a safe space to be.
Artist Bio
Heather Darr is a ceramic artist born and raised in Hudson County, New Jersey. She explores her relationship with clay through her work with young students, who remind her every day that there is always room to be silly, curious, and creative—and she is happy to remind them of the same. Since joining the Educational Arts Team in 2022 as a three-dimensional teaching artist, Heather has used storytelling and hands-on artmaking to encourage students to express their ideas, identities, and imaginations. She believes creativity grows through play, exploration, and the freedom to experiment. Heather’s newest body of work is inspired by fun—whether it’s something you’ve been missing or something you missed along the way. While she could happily spend hours at the potter’s wheel, she also enjoys creating small-scale sculptures and has recently begun sculpting her children’s hands, preserving fleeting moments through clay. Her work aims to make people smile, laugh, or pause long enough to remember that it might be okay to not be perfectly okay. Heather is a mom to two young children, a therapist’s wife, and a cat person who loves dogs. She believes the best art invites connection, joy, and a little curiosity.
