This work consists of layer of large acrylic fields of color, or scapes, and defining lines drawn with conte crayon, graphite, and charcoal. It consists of layers of time, of movement, of uncertainty, and of confidence to move forward. The work is figurative, but implicit, harnessing my dedication to understanding shadow work, rooted in understanding the parts of the self and subconscious we push down or disregard, even unknowingly. Even unaware, we feel the presence. My series of Shadow Works, of which this painting is a part of, connects deeply to my work in sustainability and climate, and my growing understanding of and resistance to climate anxiety. Pushing back on stagnation and on the feelings of defeat or doom in the face of climate change, I explore the connection of how I move through space and how I intersect with the world around me, both mentally and physically. I move in order to reject paralysis.
